MINUTES OF ALWA MEETINGS
UPDATE TO MARCH MINUTES
Hi members:
I received an e-mail from Jeff Hamme indicating that he called and talked with the conservation officer in regards to the truck that burned out on the ice. The conservation officer said he would check into it but thought if there were any problems that the fire or police department would have called the Duty Officer who is a hotline for environmental spills, etc. The conservation officer had not heard of any problems as yet. Jeff said he would go out and check for glass, tires, etc. after the snow melted and he could see what was left to be cleaned up.
Jeff also talked with Kelly Osterdyk regarding the erosion project over off of Falcon Street. Kelly did not think it would fall under a PICKM grant but that he already has grant money that could be used for this if it goes forward. Jeff said he would go to the township meeting and bring the subject up for discussion.

Minutes of the Ann Lake Watershed Alliance Meeting
March 10, 2013
Annual Dues need to be paid again.
.
Walt Smith, President, called the meeting to order at 1:08 p.m. The following people were present at the meeting: Walt Smith, Sharon Smith, Rich Anderson, Jeff Hamme, Terry Coplan, Sandy Coplan, Steve Haar, Dan Weidner, Mary Weidner, Linda Knosalla, Pat Bodin, Marge Maas, and Pam Arachikavitz.
Secretary’s Report:
We reviewed the Secretary’s Report. The following corrections were suggested: The tent worm spraying done by private homeowners cost about $150.00 per homeowner rather than $100.00 earlier stated. The other correction suggested was the net profit for the ice fishing contest was about $1,570.00 after more bills came in. It was earlier stated to be around $2,000 net profit instead of around $1,500.00. Rich Anderson made a Motion to accept the Minutes to the meeting with the added amendments listed above. Jeff Hamme seconded that Motion. Everyone voted on this and the Minutes were unanimously approved with these two amendments added.
Treasurer’s Report:
We reviewed the Treasurer’s Report for February. The estimated total funds we have for ALWA is $14,825.39 which includes, checking, savings and two CD’s. Jeff Hamme made a Motion to accept the Treasurer’s Report. Rich Anderson seconded that Motion. Everyone voted and this Motion unanimously passed.
Correspondence:
Kelly Osterdyk sent us information about the grant from the Legacy Fund which will not include money being used for Curly Leaf. This type of grant money is mostly for private land owners for erosion problems. He asked that PICK’M try to compile projects that this grant money could be used for. Rich Anderson brought it to our attention that PICK’M Alliance is different from PICK’M Lake Association. Jeff Hamme brought up the erosion problems up by Falcon Street end of the lake where the county may pay for part of that project and possibly grant money from the Legacy Fund could be obtained for our portion. Jeff Hamme and Rich Anderson will bring it up at the next meeting that they see Kelly Osterdyk at.
The gambling permit came in and Walt gave it to Sandy Coplan for use at the Ham Bingo/Easter Bingo.
LeSueur River Seeding and Conservation, LLC sent out a flyer that was passed around.
Lake Restoration sent us out a contract for spraying the curly leaf pondweed for this year.
Old Business:
Sandy Coplan reported that the Easter Ham Bingo was on schedule and is set for Sunday, March 24, 2013. Sandy has ordered the hams and meat packets for bingo and raffle. Sandy Coplan needs a check from Sandy Haar for $400 which will be used for the $100 cover-all and $20.00 for some of the games and $100.00 for startup cash. Jeff Hamm and Pam Arachikavitz will walk around selling meat raffle tickets. Sandy Coplan sells the cards. Rick Schuh will do the calling. Rich Anderson volunteered to check cards along with Walt Smith. It was suggested to have colored stickers for the number of cards each player plays. Sandy Coplan will do up some Bingo Rules. It was mentioned that the Lions Club is doing a St. Patrick’s Day Bingo event also.
Curly leaf Pondweed grant has been submitted. Jeff also applied for the Permit and he has a few things that were not quite complete, but he would take care of that. When the ice is out, Jeff will give the permit people a new digital mapping of what is being sprayed. The Curly leaf Pondweed letter has been sent out to all the property owners involved. A dollar amount still needs to be discussed with regard to the property owner’s contribution. Jeff has received one phone call asking not to be included in the spraying this year if it costs the homeowners any money.
Trustee Appointment: Steve Haar made a Motion to wait until elections in June or as needed unless there is someone who has a burning desire to be appointed Trustee. Jeff Hamme seconded that Motion. Everyone voted and this Motion was unanimously passed.
Linda Knosalla brought up the Wendel’s property being purchased by the DNR to expand the boat landing in the future.
New Business:
The Spring Celebration was brought up and Jeff Hamme indicated that he has not done anything in this regard. He thought he might try for some time in April and he wanted to include the Watershed District also to invite farmers and others to join in ALWA with the hopes we can get Ann Lake cleaner.
Scholarship Rules: Jeff passed around the original rules we have for the scholarship program we fund. After reviewing these rules especially regarding Grade Point Averages, Jeff Hamme made a Motion to keep the rules as they are with a 3.0 GPA required for the student’s first semester/quarter of college. Sandy Coplan seconded that Motion. Everyone voted on this and there were 11 yes votes and 2 no votes. This Motion passed with the majority votes.
Website development: Gary Weik has offered to put together a website for ALWA and is presently working on it. He has asked for suggestions on things he could include.
Turkey Shack at the Fair: The fair has not been making money the last few years. If the Fair continues to not make money, the Fair may go away. We will revisit the Turkey Shack next month.
Pam Archikavitz brought up that there is debris left on the ice from a vehicle catching fire during the past week. She thought that being stewards of the lake that possibly we as a group could clean up the tires and broken glass. Jeff Hamme will call Roger Huggle to see what needs to be done. Dan Weidner and Walt thought they may go down to see what needs to be cleaned up if they could find time when they were both available.
Good of the Order:
Rich Anderson brought up the Food Shelf Fundraiser to be held Saturday March 16, 2013, from noon to 3:00 at the Milaca Senior Center, 170 2nd Ave. SW., Milaca, MN. It was going to be a roast pork or turkey sandwiches with all the fixings. Suggested donation is $5.00.
Quarter Drawing:
Marge Maas won $3.25 in the quarter drawing.
Incentive Drawing:
Wally Kalscheuer would have won $25.00 in the Incentive Drawing, but he was not present. Next drawing will be for $30.00.
The meeting was adjourned by Walt Smith at 2:35 p.m.
The next meeting for ALWA will be Sunday, April 14, 2013, at 1:00 p.m. at the Pink Diamond.
Respectfully submitted,
Sharon Smith
Secretary
